Well spotted Scott. I hadn't looked at the Workarounds section for a
very time and didn't know it had syncing options.

I suggest you will get the best performance using the workaround option
"Force full screen redraws (buffer swap) on repaint", but if will
perform well ONLY if you have ppa:vanvugt/compiz enabled. Because
optimizing buffer swap performance is part of the fix for bug 763005
which is only fixed in my PPA so far.

The above suggestion, in theory, is also equivalent to a fix for bug
880707.
