It is simple: I am on Ubuntu 11.10 and for a reason I don't know, I see
only the wallpaper and the cursor of my mouse. I can't do anything (even
with the keyboard).

It happens once at the start-up, then when I pressed too quickly on two
applications and also when I tried to shut-down the computer (it was
still switch on for many time, I had to unplug my computer).

Well sorry for my bad english. I am also new on Linux but I laugh, for something wich "never crash", in less than 24 hours I made it crash more than I did on my Windows XP for three years.
But, it is a new version so, I let the doubt and still use the time I have to work on.
