[Bug 739870] Re: Default compiz configuration program should be ccsm
Seeing as my bug wasthat the KDE systems settings button for configuring
compiz failed to launch a configuration dialog (and hence was useless),
my only requirement is the default kubuntu configuration launches a
working compiz configuration manager. The default was not correct. I
mentioned ccsm because that seemed to be the only option. If there are
other, better options, that would be fine.
It is set in a default KDE configuration file to be simple-ccsm, which
was not working under natty, and appears removed from oneiric. I just
tracked done the actual package, and it's kde-runtime-data, and the
package in oneiric still is set to use simple-ccsm. (I must have just
chosen kdebase, hoping someone on that project would know which
particular subpackage was the correct one.)
That's why I originally recorded this as a kde bug, not compiz.
I assume any new Unity tool will be GTK-based. I'm not sure whether
that will work for Kubuntu. (I'm not a Kubuntu dev, just a user, and I
also have the standard Gnome and Unity shells installed, though I rarely
use them.) But even that would be better than the current: referencing
a package that isn't in the distribution, when a working alternative
does.
So I'm redirecting this to the kde-runtime-data package, and changing
the status back to "New." I'll leave it to those developers to decide
whether it is an opinion.
(Why is CCSM considered dangerous? Is it just too many options for most
users?)
** Package changed: compiz (Ubuntu) => kde-runtime (Ubuntu)
** Changed in: kde-runtime (Ubuntu)
Status: Opinion => New
