It just happened again to me this morning When trying to open chrome and
visit a G+ hangout.  apt-cache says I have 0.9.7.6:

bladernr@klaatu:~$ apt-cache policy compiz
compiz:
  Installed: 1:0.9.7.6-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1:0.9.7.6-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
