Hey all, I know this bug affects a lot of people. However please check the settings of the Compiz Place plugin before contributing to the discussion. You can do this by running "ccsm" (from the package: compizconfig-settings-manager) and looking in:
   Window Management > Place Windows
There are a few settings you can tweak there.

I know it won't work for everyone, however some people are likely to
find they can fix their problems by changing the settings. One person
above even mentioned that he got the behaviour he wanted by disabling
"Place Windows" altogether.
