It's worth mentioning also that (a) this behavior isn't consistent with
the rest of Nautilus -- in any regular Nautilus window, clicking on a
file icon also delivers keyboard focus to that window; (b) this doesn't
happen with Unity2d -- in that environment, you *can* click on the
desktop and have it receive keyboard events; and (c) it's impossible to
rename a desktop icon without minimizing all other windows first, which
is clunky.
