I have the same problem, but "fixed" it.
The temporary solution is to enable metacity via "/usr/share/gnome-session/sessions/gnome-classic.session"
Note the DefaultProvider-windowmanager is chnaged to metacity

RequiredComponents=gnome-panel;gnome-settings-daemon;
RequiredProviders=windowmanager;
DefaultProvider-windowmanager=metacity
DefaultProvider-notifications=notify-osd
