Last comment before closing this bug: It was working after reinstalling
12.10... because Ubuntu was using "nouveau" driver instead of Nvidia's.

As soon as I changed "nouveau" for "nvidia-current" (or any other nvidia
driver version), the problems reappeared.  I then noticed I had my Benq
screen shown twice on my screen settings, so I checked and found I had
it connectec to my PC with both DMI & HDMI cables.

After unplugging one of them everything works as expected.
