After talking to didrocks and xnox today, psivaa and I were both able to
confirm that killing X and restarting lightdm brings up the proper
ubiquity-dm session and let's you pick whether to install or try ubuntu.

- Booting to live session with amd64 and amd64+mac 20121203 images on a VM
- leads to a black blank screen. Booting i386 live session on a VM does
- not face this issue. On the hardware, raring-desktop-amd64.iso is not
- facing this issue either. I could not test the amd64+mac image on the
- hardware since booting to live session is facing some other issue that
- is blocking this.
+ Booting to live session with on a VM leads to a black blank screen with
+ just the top bar. The window to select whether to try ubuntu or install
+ it never comes up.  So far, this has only been reproducible in VMs, but

  Steps:
- 1. Boot to the live sesion on a  vm with an amd64+mac or amd64 raring desktop iso 
- (I used Use Virtual Machine manager to create the vm)

  2. It can be seen that the screen is shown as the screenshot attached.
