[Bug 1079440] Re: Random complete freeze using dual monitors

I've looked into this further.

First, the bug is heavily related to screen, keyboard, and/or mouse
activity. If I set up two monitors and don't have anything going on more
interesting than the clock changing once a minute, all is fine for
hours. If I set up activities on both screens and start playing with
applications, the system freezes within a few minutes. (Perl printing
out an infinite run of integers is very nice, so is system monitor's
"resources" screen.)

Second, while this happens using either the installed 12.10 or the live
12.10 DVD, it does not happen using the 12.04 live CD. Perl had counted
to 180 million, taking several hours, and I had played with various
applications during that time. [There were some minutes of screen
blanking due to inactivity as well.]

I could not find anything in /var/log that appeared to relate to this
problem.
