I confirm how boring this problem is ...

Simpliest workaround :

alt+f2

unity --replace


Sometime compiz freeze at restart then :

Ctrl + Alt + t 
unity --replace

then alt+f2  again ...

the command "unity --replace" remains in the Alt+f2 list
