[Bug 1173828] Re: extreme performance issue with raring

apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 raring ubuntu

** Description changed:

I've been running Raring since early beta on this system from a clean
install. I just upgraded my system to the latest in raring-proposed
just a little while ago and then needed to reboot for some reason. When
I came back up into the Unity login I started noticing issues.

After entering my password at the login prompt screen, I noticed that
the screen went terribly pixelated for about 15 seconds. Then, once
actually logged in, every new event on the screen is taking much much
longer than it should. Basically, any window being opened or window
element being changed (new tabs in browser, window menus, etc) it is
taking a vidibly long amount of time to go through any transitions.

Attempt to open a new window and you can see it studder to fade in from
nothing to all there in about 4-5 steps where it should be coming right
up. Same with any application. Then once the application is up and
running you can go about your business just fine. The only exception
seems to be with Totem (aka Video). In this case, the video studders
constantly. Especially in sync with when any other windows are opened.
Even just moving windows around on the screen is extremely studder-y.

I'm not quite sure what might be causing this issue. I tried using the
unity-tweak-tool to reset my unity settings, but that doesn't seem to
  have had any affect.

Not sure what information would be pertinent for someone to traige this.

  My system consists of:

  CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 640 (amd64)
  MEM: 16G
  HDD: Crucial M4 256G
  Video: Radeon HD 4250 (on-board) w/1G dedicated
  Kenrel: linux-image-3.8.0-17-generic (I've also tried 3.8.0-19)

Let me know how I can get this resolved...
