No issues with amd-catalyst-13.8 beta2 (since 12.12 for that matter) in
combination with GNOME Shell (3.8) on Ubuntu GNOME 13.04 for me.

@David: Are you using Unity or GNOME Shell and which version of Ubuntu
are you running?
