We face the same.

I confirm the error, but won't 'Confirm'!

There also appears another error when you select a journal from search
panel(say, sales journal; press find/search). Create a record,save it!!!

There is an error with 'journal_id'. We face many such errors with
journal items, will post with fixes.

  Trunk: manual journal-entry not always possible

Status in OpenERP Addons (modules):

Bug description:
  When I trie to add a manual journal-item, I often get the following
  error-message: "ENDODING ERROR, No period found or more than one
  period found for the given date."

  I can not imagen, where the problem comes from. It seems to be a bug.
  I have one opening period (01.01.2012-01.01.2012) and 12 monthly
  periods.
