Are there conditions other than blank pages in which this error can occur?

I would actually prefer OCR software to be able to distinguish, for instance,
blank pages from pages containing only photographs (with no text). For those
of us who can't see the printed pages at all, this information can be useful -
blank page might mean, for example, that I have put a sheet of paper in the
scanner with the print facing upward rather than downward, and I need to turn
it over.
