Title:
No sound via HDMI on older Nvidia card (using nouveau driver)

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
My Nvidia card is model GT710. This also happens on a GT 610 card.

Both cards are no longer supported by official Nvidia drivers but for
a media centre PC they are perfectly fine.

Ubuntu 22.04 - video and sound work fine
Ubuntu 24.04 - video works but sound does not

I am not a very technical user but so far my tests with changing the
kernel (in both 22.04 and 24.04) have concluded the following:

kernel 6.6.63 and below - sound works well over HDMI
kernel 6.7.0 and above - no sound over HDMI

I've tried to report this as a kernel bug but I get redirected to
Ubuntu, then in the Ubuntu bugs place I have been redirected here.

I am managing to use 24.04 successfully at the moment by using an old
kernel but this is not ideal.

  Please help.

  Many thanks

(reported in December 2024 at https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/no-hdmi-
  sound-with-older-nvidia-card-nouveau-driver/51540 but with no
  solution)
