Hello and thanks for this bug report. Is this behavior specific to
windows showing contents of external drives, or does it also happen with
other windows, e.g. a window for a local directory?

  nautilus for external drive freezes when Maximize

Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  I open window of GNOME Files for my usb drive. Works good. Then I push Maximize button (middle button on the right top corner) and GNOME Files freeze forever...
  In htop for `/usr/bin/nautilus --gapplication-service` 100% CPU usage, 0.4 Mem usage.
