[Bug 2115005] [NEW] gnome-text-editor blank text on popup window controls after inplace upgrade to 24.04.2
Public bug reported:
I inplace-upgraded my desktop computer from ubuntu desktop 20.04 LTS to 22.04 LTS and then to 24.04.2 LTS.
After this completed, gedit was gone and I had gnome-text-editor version 46.3 .
I pinned this to the dash and launch it from there.
The computer has an nvidia graphics card, prior to upgrade it was using the nvidia driver v470.
When I use a menu item that opens a popup window, sometimes the texts for the controls on those popup windows are blank, and either temporarily appear on scroll/select before disappearing again, or stay populated when clicked.
For example hamburger-menu > Preferences will show a window that has
some controls outlined, radio-buttons , but no text. If I scroll the
right-hand-side slider down, some of the text for radio-button items
will appear (but not all) and will shortly disappear again after a
couple of seconds if I wait. If I "mouse-over" some of the blank radio-
button items, the text appears and sticks (i.e. does not disappear). For
the top of the preferences window the "Appearance" area remains blank
until and unless I click inside the square area and "select" the blank
area then I can briefly see the Markdown, numbered list etc but it
disappears again when that area loses focus.
Similarly, if I use "Save As..." then the resulting window is partially
blank (i.e. only the left hand side list of icons is visible but without
any text accompanying the icons), and the right-hand-side panel will
show the target directory names OK, and the bottom pull-down-lists
"Automatically Detected" and "Unix/Linux (LF)" are initially blank until
I click the down-arrow to populate them.
