Additional Information:
I installed Ubuntu 25.04 on a spare SSD. The problem does not exist 
under 25.05.

The symptoms under 22.04 include erratic response to the keyboard in the 
terminal. sometimes there is ~ 1 second between a key press and the 
response in the termina.

I can not update to 25.04 at this time.

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  After apt update && apt full-upgrade and a reboot,

  The Ubuntu splash screen was displayed for 1 ~ 2 seconds then the
  display was black. The graphic boot never completed. I could log in to
  the system via ssh and everything seemed normal.

  Adding nomodeset to the linux line at the grub prompt, allowed the
  system to boot into safe graphics mode.

  After some web searches, I used sudo ubuntu-drivers autoinstall and
  rebooted.

  The splash screen was wrong:

  After more than 2 minutes, boot completed and I can log in. System
  behavior is strange, jerky and slow. Top shows no unusual activity.
