[Bug 2121820] Re: pkgProblemResolver finds problems on default Ubuntu Desktop install in Noble+
I don't know what you mean with triggering the pkgProblemResolver. The
pkgProblemResolver gets triggered by the first stage solver producing an
unsatisfiable system state due to Conflicts between packages marked for
install and tries to solve the package that has unsatisfied
dependencies.
The logs show an unsupported system configuration:
- dconf is being forced to the version from proposed
- dconf-service is not made available to the apt command
We generally cannot support unrestricted use of -proposed: The proposed
pocket may be uninstallable at any point; but what we certainly cannot
support is if you force a specific package like dconf from proposed but
then hide other relevant binaries that require the same version.
I don't see a bug here.
** Changed in: apt (Ubuntu)
Status: New => Incomplete
** Package changed: libcanberra (Ubuntu) => dconf (Ubuntu)

Title:
pkgProblemResolver finds problems on default Ubuntu Desktop install in
Noble+
Status in apt package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Status in dconf package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
Spinning this bug off of 2072586 because it's not strictly related to
the dconf changes.
On a default Noble install, apt's pkgProblemResolver (when triggered)
finds unmet dependencies (full log attached as noble-desktop-
breaks.txt):
```
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libcanberra-pulse : Depends: pipewire-pulse but it is not going to be installed or
pulseaudio but it is not going to be installed
E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.
```
After removing libcanberra-pulse, pkgProblemResolver attempts to
remove many desktop packages (see attached noble-desktop-remove.txt).
The libcanberra-pulse issue does not occur on Plucky, but
pkgProblemResolver still attempts to remove many of the desktop
packages.
To reproduce, install from ISO from releases.ubuntu.com; dist-upgrade,
and trigger pkgProblemResolver.
I'm not sure if this is expected behavior or not but would like to
confirm since removing the desktop seems like misbehavior.
