[Bug 2104051] Re: unable to open Terminal window right after reboot

I've been seeing the same behavior as described in this issue ever since
installing Ubuntu 24.04 (I'm using Gnome Desktop).

I have an NVIDIA 970 GTX card installed which is running on the nvidia-
driver-550 (v. 550.163.01-0ubuntu0.24.04.1) but I'm using Intel Graphics
for display. NVIDIA card is only used for CUDA stuff.

After login I try to open the Gnome Terminal but nothing happens. I
notice, when hovering the mouse over the calendar clock display at the
top of the screen, that the pointer changes to "busy" indicating that
something is waiting for something to happen.

Title:
unable to open Terminal window right after reboot

Status in gnome-terminal package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
When using Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS with an Nvidia GPU, the Terminal
application will not start just after a reboot. After a few minutes
go by, then it will start and works fine.

The problem does not occur in Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.
The problem does not occur if the Nvidia driver is removed (but then I can't run my other app).

I've tested with various Nvidia driver versions including 550 and
550-open and the problem occurs with each.

I've tried opening the Terminal app with Ctrl-Alt-T, or with the
command gnome-terminal added to the Startup Applications list, and the
  problem occurs either way.

I've tried reinstalling a fresh Ubuntu 24.04 and the problem persists.

I ran a system memory test with no errors.

It appears some other apps such as Emacs similarly also do not start
just after a reboot, although other apps such as Firefox and Chrome
  seem ok.

I hope this is helpful info. Wanting to upgrade from 22.04 to 24.04
  if/when this is resolved...

  Thanks
