[Bug 2122294] Re: gnome-session-init-worker crashes with SIGTRAP (Failed to start unit gnome-session-x11@gnome-login.target: ...: Unit gnome-session-x11@gnome-login.target not found.)
So in GDM 49.rc I had to re-enable support for the greeter to run in
Xorg mode because today that's the only way that GDM is able to start
(non-GNOME) Xorg sessions, which is a feature we wanted to retain for
the overall Ubuntu project.
By default GDM should always try to start the greeter in Wayland mode
multiple times before giving up and falling back to starting the greeter
in Xorg mode (which won't work, because there's no Xorg GNOME session).
But your logs do show the greeter trying to run in Xorg mode first, and
only later falling back to Wayland.
```
set 08 06:26:51 glados gdm3[4514]: Gdm: GdmLocalDisplayFactory: Getting session type (prefers xorg, falling back: yes)
set 08 06:26:51 glados gdm3[4514]: Gdm: GdmLocalDisplayFactory: New displays on seat0 will use wayland fallback
```
I concur with Daniel that it would seem like your /etc/gdm3/custom.conf
is being misinterpreted -- unless it has changed in between the bug
encounter and the bug report.
Upstream wanted to rip out the Xorg greeter but couldn't finish the work
in time for GNOME 49, but I wonder if we could patch it out in a more
simple way just avoiding GDM trying to start the greeter in Xorg mode
ever.

Bug description:
I restarted my machine today, and it was odd how long took to GDM appears. For some reason it seems it was in a crash loop. Normally after the boot it appears turning on my external display, and than appears the GDM. But this time it entered in a loop turning on and off my external display.
I can say that because appears an OSD written "HDMI 2" when it turns on the display.
I hope the logs can give you more details about it.
