Re: Vostro v13 Halt and suspend Issues
Hey Pierre,
I'm having problems with power management too, though not like yours
(if I read your letter correctly). Mine are:
1) Resume from suspend takes about 30 seconds. Particularly annoying
when the screen is visible in about 5 but I can't do anything with it.
2) Sometimes, not often, resuming will go into a loop. Just as it
finally wakes up it immediately and spontaneously goes back to suspend.
This will continue until I do a hard shutdown.
3) A few times I've had it spontaneously shutdown during boot, near the
end.
I've searched for a resolution to this with no luck. I have seen some
reference to (1) suggesting it has to do with wireless hanging and
locking the system for a period of time, but I doubt this is the case
for me as I can see the wireless icon trying to make a connection while
the system is otherwise stuck. It may, however, be related as the
connection never actually gets established until after it "unfreezes."
I've been reluctant to test any solutions as I depend on this machine
for school too much to risk "breaking" it.
Another thing that I've had trouble with is the touchpad. It's
recognized as Generic PS/2 instead of Synaptics which means no
side-scrolling and I can't temp disable the touchpad wile typing. I've
searched and searched and tried some fixes for this one and had no luck.
A shame, really, since in all other aspects I love this machine. But
these 2 annoyances really dull the shine.
Ironic that you sent this letter when you did, as I received it just as
I was finishing writing a review, mostly about the 2 things above, on
the Dell website. Keep me posted on anything you find! What version of
Ubuntu are you running? I have 10.04 fully updated.
