Same issue occurs for me on every boot of an up to date Oneiric x86_64
install. After the lightdm login screen is displayed I enter my username
and password hit login, the login screen disappears briefly before
reappearing,  The same happens with what ever session type I choose, for
example Gnome3 or Unity. If I switch to a virtual terminal and login
first I can then switch back to lightdm and login normally. This has
been happening for about a week.

What can I provide to help track down the cause of the issue? I'm
attaching the output of lspci and lightdm logs.

Bug description:
  Ok, it turns out removing the .dmrc file isn't the cause of my logins
  working:

  I removed it yesterday while I was logged in and shutdown my computer.
  Today I switched my computer on and the login screen, again, wouldn't
  let me in. I jumped into terminal to remove the .dmrc file, only to
  discover that it wasn't there. I went back to the login screen and
  this time it let me straight in.

  So it looks like simply logging into the terminal allows the login
  screen to work...
