Title:
Complete System Lockup following Screensaver then Monitor Power Down

Status in “gnome-screensaver” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

This is my first time reporting a bug on Ubuntu so apologies if I miss
  anything.

Today my machine locked up while I was away from desk. When I returned
the machine was unresponsive to keyboard (internal and external),
mouse and or trackpad. The network also appeared to be offline as I
couldn't ping it from another machine on my network. The machine
didn't appear to be busy - no rapidly flashing lights! It was also
unresponsive to a the power button (not in suspend or hibernate). I
had to hold the power button down for 3-5 seconds to shut the machine
  down.

The machine had idled to screensaver (Skyrocket) before I left my
  desk.

I do not know if power management had put the display to sleep as I
was not at the desk, but I was away long enough for this to have
  occurred (~1 hour).

Yesterday, following it's release, I did a fresh install of Jaunty
Jackalope 64bit on my machine. (I had previously been running Intrepid
  Ibex.)

I also installed the latest driver from Nvidia (x86_64 v180.53)
released on the 22 Apr 09. (I had previously been using a beta Nvidia
  Driverx86_64 v185.13 released on the 13 Mar 09.)

  At the time, the following applications were running;
  1. QuickSynergy (minimized but connected as a server to one other pc)
  2. Firefox (1 instance)
  3. Gedit (2 files open)
  4. Terminal (idle)

Apart from VMware Server2, the machine runs very little on the host. I
had installed a couple of new applications on trial as this was my
  first build of Jaunty.

  My machine specs are as follows;

  Dell Precision M6400 (Laptop)
    Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9300
    16Gb RAM / 2 * 500Gb Sata 7200 (no RAID)
    17" RGB LED 1920x1200 driven by Nvidia FX3700M 1Gb
  Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalope 64Bit (9.04) 2.6.28-11
    Nvidia Driver x86_64 v180.53

I had not had this issue previously under Intrepid.

Thank you, I hope this information may be useful somehow.

  Regards

  David
