Title:
Volume control is considerably less useful than Jaunty

Status in “gnome-media” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-media

When I try to adjust volume in gnome, it mutes when I'm still a ~6th
  from the lowest setting.

I've also lost multiple mixer tracks and a substantial degree of fine-
grained control over my system's volume. This results in most
applications being either too loud or too quiet.

I'm sadly disappointed by the volume control in karmic and I worry
this could be a big issue for Karmic if it isn't addressed soon!
