Title:
Desktop effects prevents updates in Remote Desktop Viewer

Status in “vinagre” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: vinagre

Used Applications->Internet->Remote Desktop Viewer to VNC from a Lucid
Lynx machine to another Lucid Lynx machine over the internet. I could
see the cursor moving on the remote machine, but no other updates to
the screen. Disabling desktop effects on the remote machine solved the
problem. Both machines are clean vanilla installs of Ubuntu 10.04.

Since desktop effects tend to be enabled by default on most recent
hardware setups, this means that remote desktop connection via vnc
appears to the end user to be broken by default.

I would expect the view shown in the remote desktop connection to
update correctly regardless of the level of desktop effects selected
in the visual effects tab of the appearance preferences window.
