Title:
No session menu in gnome-panel (power button not showing)
Status in “gnome-panel” package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
Binary package hint: gnome-panel
Some times when I log into gnome the power button icon is not showing
on the upper right of my screen. It seems instead that my username is
truncated and shown twice, see screenshot. I also had the same problem
with the amd64-release of Ubuntu 10.10, so I resintalled with the
recommended desktop release (i386) just to be sure. Happens in both
environments.
In order to logout I use the following command in gnome-terminal:
gnome-session-save --logout
It is also possible fire an acpi-signal with the real power button,
which will bring up a dialog, however this dialog does not have all
the options available on the session menu: guest session, lock screen
and any operations regarding changing to another user, are all
missing.
Have also experienced the same problem with another user on the
system.
Could possibly be related to usernames longer than 8 characters?
(Guessing because of the truncated username shown in the instant
messaging menu that normally preceeds the power icon.)
