[Bug 779329] Re: [Upstream] Writer has Read-Error opening ODT file

 

el_gallo_azul, I am closing this bug because it has been fixed in the
latest development version of Ubuntu - Oneiric Ocelot.

This is a significant bug in Ubuntu. If you need a fix for the bug in
previous versions of Ubuntu, please do steps 1 and 2 of the SRU
Procedure [1] to bring the need to a developer's attention.

  3) What is expected to happen is using Ubuntu 11.04, LibreOffice
  Writer via the Terminal:

  the file opens successfully.

  4) What happens instead is a window pops up noting:

  Read-Error.
  Error reading file

  click OK button and Writer closes.

  WORKAROUND: Open in AbiWord.

  WORKAROUND: Covert the .odt file to a .doc via AbiWord then open in
  LibreOffice Writer via the Terminal:

  abiword --to=doc --to-name=2010_05_04\ Hire\ agreement.doc 2010_05_04\
  Hire\ agreement.odt && lowriter -nologo 2010_05_04\ Hire\
  agreement.doc
