there was an upgrade to the new version of firefox. That addressed the
issue. The scrollbar discontinued with ubuntu integration in return
for just a standard scroll bar.

Bug description:
  it is very inconvenient to try and put my mouse on that skinny
  scrollbar. In the newer versions on ubuntu there would usually be two
  arrow buttons that appear when you put your mouse button over the
  scroll bar. Perhaps that was something that was missed with firefox?
  because everything else that requires scrolling has those arrows
  appear.
