  Initial message of a conversation lost

Bug description:
  Initial messages of a conversation are not being displayed in the
  window. They show up in the log, but not in the window. Happens with
  all protocols. This is a pretty annoying bug. It's similar to bug
  #475615 but as that's so old I thought a new bug would be applicable.
