I have installed NVIDIA 340.76.

On Nouveau it doesn't happen this way, but Nouveau is a different story.
There I have some sort of artefacts, the system is overall very slow,
and mouse pointer is blinking.

I don't know if this happened prior to Trusty, I was using card in a
discrete mode back then (BIOS setting), and I have disabled Optimus
reporting to an operating system. When I disable it, and run in discrete
mode now, it works more or less okay, with an exception of random
freezes at boot time (normally if it boots it doesn't freeze later), and
freezes on for example keyboard actions modifying brightness. However I
think this is a different problem, as it only exists if I'm running
discrete mode with optimus reporting disabled.

Title:
  Incorrect display when using monitor on the left on NVIDIA Optimus
  Card

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  When using configuring screen to be placed on the left side Unity
  behaves incorrectly. The screen on the left monitor is containing
  duplication of the main screen. This means that when I reach edge of
  the external display the content contains duplicated copy of main
  display which is scrolled as I move cursor. The same content is shown
  on the main display.

  Additionally making windows full screen makes the window full screen
  on both displays.

  This is not the case when the main screen (laptop) is configured to be
  on the left and external monitor is on the right.
