[Bug 1349121] Re: Non-existent display detected using nouveau driver (Samsung Laptop Nvidia GeForce GT 520M) (Ubuntu 14.04.01)

Morten Frisch, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg 1349121

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes
button for attaching additional debugging information.

As well, given the information from the prior release is already
available, testing a release prior to the development one would not be
helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
Non-existent display detected using nouveau driver (Samsung Laptop
Nvidia GeForce GT 520M) (Ubuntu 14.04.01)

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Samsung NP300V3A (Laptop) | Nvidia GF119M [GeForce GT 520M] | Ubuntu
  14.04.01 LTS

  Xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu8 | ubuntu-drivers-common 1:0.2.91.5 | xserver-xorg-
  video-nouveau 1:1.0.10-1ubuntu2

Unexpected 'ghost' display appears in settings when no extra display
  is connected.

There is a non-existing display detected, known as "Unknown Display".
The bug is all in all very similar, if not a duplicate, of bug
#1296020. However, as I am using Nouveau rather than Nvidia-331 and
have different hardware, I thought it better to make a new report. The
bug renders GDM impossible to use while Lightdm works. When logging in
to Gnome Shell, the screen goes black from time to time (upon loading
the shell), this I can solve by using the laptop hardware keys for
  switching video output.

I tried the proprietary drivers and the fix committed to trusty-
proposed due to bug #1296020 (ubuntu-drivers-common 1:0.2.91.6) with
no avail. It seems that whatever solved the issue for a non-existing
display for Nvidia-331 users is not causing the problem for those who
  are using Nouveau.
