regarding this being fixed with a reinstall. For future reference you

  Cursor doesn't load when switching accounts

Bug description:
  Recently upgraded from 12.04 to 14.04.  When logged into one account
  and switch to guest account, my mouse cursor does not display.  If I
  log out of my first account before logging into the guest account, the
  cursor does display
