[Bug 703464] Re: ubuntu 10.04 no sound with intel hd audio card - Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 06)

This answer fixed the problem for me:
http://askubuntu.com/a/139567/340336

Open: /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf

And add this line to the bottom:

options snd-hda-intel model=generic

Then, restart the computer.

Title:
ubuntu 10.04 no sound with intel hd audio card - Intel Corporation 5
Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 06)

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Hi

I don't get any sound after installing Ubuntu version.

  Description:	Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
  Release:	10.04

for my inbuilt sound card which lspci and asound shows as follows:

  lspci | grep -i audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 06)

  cat /proc/asound/cards
   0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
HDA Intel at 0xfbff8000 irq 22

This works well with Windows XP after installing the driver from the CD given by the motherboard manufacturer.

The gnome sound preferences is not muted and shows the card as Intel
  internal audio.

I tried increasing the volume levels in the sound preferences and
selecting different Audio Profiles (Eg: Stereo Duplex etc)

but I dont get any sound.

  I have this kernel:
  uname -ar
  Linux i5 2.6.32-27-generic #49-Ubuntu SMP Wed Dec 1 23:52:12 UTC 2010 i686 GNU/Linux
