Unfortunately, the Remmina PPA Team PPA isn't a great alternative at this point as attempting to use it consistently crashes Remmina:

Status in remmina package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  When trying to connect to OS X hosts I get the following message -

  Unknown authentication scheme from VNC server: 30, 35

  Uninstalling remmina and then installing the version from 12.04 fixes
  the problem.
