[Bug 1432164] Re: Alternative video driver (fglrx) is not being saved as a selection choice

This was in response to step 2.1 of this guide "For users who find that
the Additional Drivers method does not work, please file a bug report on
Launchpad about this." Also, I have screenshots of what happens

** Attachment added: "Selecting the second or third option and applying the changes does not work. The x Org X server is the only one that works."

Title:
Alternative video driver (fglrx) is not being saved as a selection
  choice

Status in compiz package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Hello. I can't select and save the proprietary drivers in the
"Software and Updates" in the "Additional Drivers" section. It allows
me to select using a proprietary driver, but when I click "Apply
Changes," it jumps right back to the X Org X server option.

I've also tried "sudo apt-get install fglrx" and some variants thereof, but end up getting a response back such as :
  Reading package lists... Done
  Building dependency tree
  Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
fglrx : Depends: xorg-video-abi-11 but it is not installable or
xorg-video-abi-12 but it is not installable or
xorg-video-abi-13 but it is not installable or
xorg-video-abi-14 but it is not installable or
                    xorg-video-abi-15
