  unity doesn't start, unity --reset crashes (nvidia)

Bug description:
  After booting, ubuntu desktop appears without unity menu, launcher.
  Unity crashes on start, unity --reset gives "segmentation fault", see
  attached "log" file. I tried with nvidia-173 driver and now I am using
  the driver downloaded from nvidia.com.
