[Bug 1268257] Re: nvidia-331-updates 331.38-0ubuntu3: nvidia-331-updates kernel module failed to build, with only error: "objdump: '... .tmp_nv.o': No such file"
Yesterday it did get my attention that the package "linux-generic" wasn't installed anymore on my desktop and my kernel was was lagging a few updates behind.
Installing the "linux-generic" package it didn't give any problems. Also the new kernel that did came along with it was installed without any errors.
The kernel update of today was also preformed without any problem.
So for me the problem seems to be solved with reinstalling the "linux-
generic" package:
$ sudo apt-get install linux-generic

This seems to fix it (at least for one version upgrade) for many
people
$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-331
after that...
$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-331-uvm
(some users may be on the versions of these packages suffixed with
-updates )
