Re: [Bug 1427511] Re: No display on boot after the initial few screens
Dear Chris,
Thank you for the update. However, I had already taken the following
steps to resolve the issue.
First, i took a backup of my data. Then I did afresh install of the OS.
The installation did not cause any problems, but on removing my bootable
Pen drive and booting from the newly installed OS, the problem
persisted. Then I thought this might be and issue with the BIOS. Hence I
downloaded the latest version of the bios and upgraded my netbook.
Since then, the problem has disappeared.
Once again thank you for the help.
Regards
Manoj

Manoj Bhataria, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. As per
http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/X200MA/HelpDesk_Download/ an
update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (504). If
you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?
If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date
For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.
Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.
Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status New.
Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
No display on boot after the initial few screens
Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I have been using the Asus X200M netbook for the past 3-4 months. I
have loaded 14.04 LTS using a USB stick. Last week when I powered on
my system, after the initial few screens, the display goes completely
blank. I know that my display is fine and there is no loose connection
since it it alive for few seconds after power on. It also displays the
Grub menu. It is after I select Ubuntu that the display goes blank. If
I select the recovery mode and select normal boot then it boots
correctly.
