Title:
Firefox first suggestion is to open a *.bin file with gedit
Status in firefox package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Binary package hint: firefox
When you download software in the form of a *.bin file—e.g. Google
Earth from http://www.google.com/earth/download/ge/—in the download
dialogue of Firefox opening the *.bin file with gedit is selected by
default.
However, this is software, not something you would like to open in a
text editor. In order to not make users end up with Gedit filling
their screen with error messages or a huge amount of characters, I
would make Firefox select Save As by default.
