Title:
HP Pavilion dv6 loses display permanently when lid is left closed

Status in “gnome-power-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I am using a new (as of December 2010) HP Pavilion dv6t laptop with
  Ubuntu 10.10.

In system > Preferences > Power Management I have set "On AC Power"
  on the following:

Put computer to sleep when inactive for: Never
When laptop lid is closed: Blank Screen

If I close the lid only briefly, I can open the lid, type in my
password, and resume use of the laptop. But if I leave the lid closed
for too long (I do not know the exact length of time, but perhaps
between 5 to 15 minutes) the display is gone. I am left with nothing
but a black screen and nothing will bring it back. I have to turn off
the laptop and then turn it back on again.

I do not know if this bug is affecting gnome-power-manager or the
linux kernel so I have filed a bug report against both.
