Title:
Lock screen key combo does nothing immediately after switching virtual
desktops
Status in “metacity” package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
Binary package hint: metacity
If I switch virtual desktops using ctrl+alt+arrow key, releasing the
arrow key and hitting L instead does nothing at all.
Steps to repro:
0. Have Desktop effects turned off (not sure if this is essential) and multiple virtual desktops
1. Switch from one desktop to another using ctrl+alt+arrow keys. Leave ctrl+alt depressed
2. Press L along with the still-depressed ctrl+alt
What I expect to happen:
Screen should blank; password dialog should appear if I move the mouse or touch the keyboard
What actually happens:
Nothing.
Workaround:
If you release ctrl+alt and then hit ctrl+alt+L, it locks the screen just as expected. Also, hitting L a second time while keeping ctrl+alt still depressed works as well.
Fundamental security hygiene as well as company policy requires that I
lock my screen when I leave my computer. Annoyingly, I frequently
find myself returning to an unlocked screen when I have fetched my cup
of coffee, or whatever. I believe I have now pinpointed the cause: if
I switched virtual screens (e.g. so I remember to check my mail when I
return to my desk) just before leaving, the computer would not lock.
Further experimentation revealed that if I release the ctrl+alt keys
and then press ctrl+alt+L, locking seems to work just fine, but if I
keep ctrl+alt depressed after pressing an arrow key and press L,
nothing happens.
Sorry if this is filed against the wrong package. I do not currently
have an environment where I can try this under Compiz (i.e. with
desktop effects enabled).
