Title:
  Main window inactive at creation

Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  The situation:
I have a running instance of empathy, "hidden" in the messaging menu. Whenever i want to open the main window to start a conversation, i have several ways to get there: messageing menu, pinned icon in the launcher, calling the dash and typing the name.

In all those cases, empathy's main window shows as expected, but never
gets the focus, so you have to click it first to be able to use the
  menu.

There is only one other instance where this happens, and that is if i
call the running instance of google-music-frame (using gnome's web-app
functionality) via the dash. It does not happen if i call GMF via the
  sound menu.

Everytime the problem with the focus appears, the window controls of
the corresponding window are grayed out, even though they work fine.
The stay grayed out, even if i focus the window manually. I attach a
  small screenshot of the controls.
