Title:
Xorg freeze -- random, no identifiable trigger (yet)
Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Binary package hint: xorg
The computer freezes randomly, roughly once per day at no particular
time with no particular trigger. The problem existed in 9.04 and 9.10
with identical hardware, and now in 10.04, although I cannot say for
sure if it is the same bug. The lockup is total. I have not tried
rlogging in over the net, nor have I yet checked whether Alt-SysRq-K
will work (something only just learned about).
I have no idea if the information collected by apport is going to show
you anything. If there is a better way or better time to run apport-
bug (or ubuntu-bug or whatever), I'm all ears. All the information
gathered by apport here was some time after rebooting from the last
lockup.
I usually have Firefox running, but I do not believe it is necessary
for this bug to occur. It definitely did not matter what I had
running back in 9.10. I do not remember if I had a freeze occur with
no apps running yet in 10.04.
I am technically literate, but I do not know my way around Linux
packages, log files, debugging tools. I should be able to follow
instruction easily enough, or start to debug myself once pointed to
the right information (depending on available time).
I also do not know myself whether "xorg" is the correct package to
file this under -- it is what apport-bug chose based on its
interactive wizard.
