Title:
nautilus desktop freeze: EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck
  in an infinite loop.

Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
Whenever focus enters or leaves my desktop (ie enter: click on desktop to focus on it, leave: click on different window to leave the desktop), the machine locks up for about 10-15 seconds, and Xorg process jumps to 100% during the lockup. After this I can interact with the desktop, except for right click still locks about for about 5 seconds each time. (X does not crash, it continues working after the crash)
I use gnome3 and nautilus, fully updated ubuntu 11.10 x64. This consistently starts occuring after using the computer for about 10 minutes.

Below is the output from Xorg.0.log. I have also attached the
backtrace during the freeze from attaching gdb to X over ssh (its more
interesting), and my xorg.conf (generated by nvidia-settings)

This started happening as soon as I installed gnome 3 (around January I think), I never noticed it in Unity.
My temporary workaround is to stop nautilus from handling the desktop, but I would really like to have it on. The stacktrace seems similar to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-177/+bug/294941

I have tried both nvidia-current and nvidia-current-updates drivers with the same results.
Desktop resolution is 2806x900, as seen in some of the arguments of the gdb output. (using Twinview) but it also occurs in single monitor mode. (maybe less often)
