Title:
[Oneiric] Nvidia-current 280.13 hangs up the system

Status in Cairo Graphics Library:
  Invalid
Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
The latest stable nvidia-current from Oneiric repos (280.13-0ubuntu1) hangs up my system.
This happens every time after I have started synaptic.
Then, if I try to close this application, it won't close until the system asks to force quit it.
Then, however, the whole system hangs (also speeding up CPU).
If I then try to shut down or reboot, I get a message saying terminal is not responding.
So somehow terminal process does not appear to shut down.

This is easy to reproduce, as it happens every time with nvidia-
  current_280.13.

The previous version 275.09.07-0ubuntu4 works just fine.
In addition to this, also the beta version 280.04 (from xorg-edgers) works OK.
However, the later beta 280.11 will also hang up just like 280.13 does.

This issue seems to be related to cairo and particularly enabling gl support.
This feature was applied to cairo from the version 1.10.2-6ubuntu1.
Downgrading cairo to earlier version (1.10.2-2ubuntu4) solves the issue.
This leads to the conclusion that nvidia-current is incompatible with gl enabled cairo.

  I have a fully updated 64-bit Oneiric-alfa3
  Mobo: Gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P
Graphics card: XFX GTX285 1 GB
