Title:
Both Firefox and Chrome consuming 70% CPU without a reason at the same
time
Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Suddenly my laptop's cooler fan began spinning very fast while the
system was completely idle, I wan't even using it though I had a few
programs opened.
So I ran top, and I saw the Chrome and Firefox processes were
alternatively consuming 70% CPU each all the time. There were only
static idle pages open, no youtube video, nothing of that kind, no
script running. I closed Firefox and Chrome kept consuming 70% cpu,
then I closed Chrome and it obviously stopped.
It would be a very strange coincidence that it was a bug in both
browsers manifesting itself at the very same time, so that's why I'm
reporting this against xorg: it's almost surely something at the
system level, and I strongly suspect something graphical (perhaps
nvidia-related? as the broken nvidia driver's bugs are usually
rensponsible of most of Ubuntu's tremendous instability).
