Title:
  Regression: fullscreen display corruption

Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
A recent update to my 12.10 system has resulted in the display
occasionally showing severe corruption (see video here:
  http://ubuntuone.com/0ItrEBmS23ERwH131NsROv ) that forces a reboot.
This is an intermittent problem but it's happened to me at least 4
times. I think the problem started around the time I upgraded to unity
6.10 but I am not sure of the exact date.

Moving the mouse over various UI elements causes the corruption to
change, sometimes spectacularly. For example, moving the mouse + up
down the unity launcher causes lots of rapid changes. When the machine
is idle with no input, there are small dots that will dance around on
the screen [see the beginning of the attached video]

A reboot always clears the problem. Switching to a VT and back to X
  will not clear the problem.

I'm on a MacBook Pro 3,1 w/ NVIDIA 8600M GT and the binary NVIDIA
  driver (304.51.really.304.43-0ubuntu1).

  Steps to reproduce:
  1) Use the computer. A second monitor may be a factor, I am not sure

  Expected results:
UI remains legible, no massive corruption

  Actual results:
After a period of time (hours/days) the displays may suddenly show massive corruption that makes it impossible to keep working.
