Title:
X in failsafe mode after installing Nvidia drivers

Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
I'm trying to get nvidia-properitary drivers to work on my Lenovo w520.
After successfully installing the drivers I do a reboot. x-server then loads with what seems to be a failsafe mode.
Nvidia-settings reports that I don't appear to be running an nvidia driver, and hints to run nvidia-xconfig.
This application does not exist. (locate nvidia-xconfig returns no results as well. )

  dpkg -l|grep nvidia
ii nvidia-current 304.51.really.304.43-0ubuntu1 amd64 NVIDIA binary Xorg driver, kernel module and VDPAU library

ii nvidia-settings 304.51-0ubuntu1 amd64 Tool for configuring the NVIDIA graphics driver
rc nvidia-settings-experimental-304 304.48-0ubuntu1 amd64 Tool of configuring the NVIDIA graphics driver
rc nvidia-settings-updates 304.43-0ubuntu1 amd64 Tool of configuring the NVIDIA graphics driver

Any idea on what I have to do to get the nvidia-drivers working?
